Art and Art History Department Welcomes New Assistant Professor, Natalia Almada

We are pleased to announce that Natalia Almada has joined the Department of Art & Art History as Assistant Professor in the Documentary Film and Video Program. Natalia started in her new post this month.

Recipient of the 2012 MacArthur “Genius” Award, Almada combines artistic expression with social inquiry, to make films that are both personal reflections and critical social commentaries. Her work straddles the boundaries of documentary, fiction, and experimental cinema.

Two-time recipient of the Sundance Documentary Directing Award for Users (2021) and El General (2009), Almada’s directing credits include Todo lo demás (New York Film Festival 2016), El Velador (Cannes 2011), Al otro lado (Tribeca 2005), and All Water Has a Perfect Memory (Sundance 2002). She graduated with an MFA in photography from Rhode Island School of Design, and has received prestigious fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, USA Artists, The Herb Alpert Foundation, and MacDowell Colony.
