Marcelo studies the art of the United States and the history and theory of photography. He holds a BA in Art History with high honors and minors in German and Medieval Studies from New York University. His undergraduate honors thesis, titled 'On Peter Hujar, Steve Lawrence, and Newspaper(1969-1971),’ analyzed a network of artists in downtown New York and their participation in an obscure no-word picture tabloid. In July 2018 he co-curated The Unflinching Eye: The Symbols of David Wojnarowiczat the Mamdouha Bobst Gallery of the NYU Library. Before coming to Stanford, Marcelo worked in Berlin as an archivist for the artist AA Bronson. He has also worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Fales Library, and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. .
