Mara Hassan

Mara Hassan researches modern and contemporary art of North America and Europe. Her interdisciplinary interests include trans negativism, anti-portraiture, and the readymade. 

She was a 2021-2022 Hot Metal Bridge Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh. There, she conducted research on Greer Lankton's personal archive and wrote a culminating thesis on the artist’s understudied use of abstraction. She holds a BA in Art History and Queer Studies from UCLA.

Her writing and research has supported institutions such as the The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Hammer Museum, ONE Institute, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, The Mattress Factory, and more. Her recent curatorial project, Full and Pure: Body, Materiality, Gender, opened in June of 2023 in Dallas, TX.
