Johnny Symons is an award-winning independent film and videomaker based in Oakland, California. Five of Johnny's films have won awards; his work has screened at over 75 film festivals worldwide, and aired on PBS and international television. He currently works as a freelance film and video producer on public television shows and independent documentaries.

Since it opened its doors on Castro Street in 1947, Louie's Barber Shop has seen the neighborhood change from a sleepy blue collar Irish community to the world's most famous gay mecca. Today, Louie and his old-time customers are still there, but dykes and queer boys have added a style all their own.
