About

Henry Wiener was born and raised in Jackson, MS and received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University, majoring in American Military History. While at Columbia, Henry served as Vice President and Senior Director of the King's Crowne Shakespeare Troupe. After graduation, he started an independent film company "5 to 9 Productions".  Highlights include: One-Man Re-Enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg, a 20 minute, historically accurate depiction of the key moments of the Battle of Gettysburg, with all dialogue constructed from primary source quotations; Baldhead, a 6 minute short, narrating an episode from the biblical story of Elisha; and Louisville a documentary about a small farm in north Mississippi. While not making films in the PM hours, Henry spent several years employed at Scholastic Education as an Educational Software Producer.

Wandering Rabbi

hd video

JUNE, 2014
VIDEO DURATION: 13:56 MIN.

Wandering Rabbi follows Rabbi Marshal Klaven, a 34 year old, itinerant rabbi, as he travels across the American South, visiting a circuit of small Jewish communities, leading Shabbat services, ministering at life cycle events, and providing guidance and advice to the members of these small communities. Rabbi Marshall faces imposing obstacles: congregations of swiftly aging and rapidly dwindling populations, atheistic sons and daughters, and an alarming rise in the number of old and beautiful synagogues closing their doors for good.  Rabbi Marshal faces an uphill, if not impossible challenge to breathe life back into these congregations.  Set against the alluring backdrop of the decaying Mississippi delta, the candid interactions between Rabbi Marshal and his congregations reveal an unheralded resilience of faith in the unlikeliest of places.
