Emilia Cottignoli researches the art, architecture, and space of Late Antiquity. She is interested in the how the embeddedness of monuments in their situational, environmental context informs interior perception. Her work considers the aesthetics of water, light, reflection, the sea, mosaics, precious stones, and jewels. She holds a BA from Tufts University in Art History and International Literary/Visual Studies and is working toward a PhD in Art History at Stanford University.
