Emilia Cottignoli researches Early Christian and Byzantine art, architecture, and space. She is interested in the relationship between the built world and its natural environment, and the reciprocity between internal and external space, considering aesthetics, light, water, the sea, reflections, and mirrors. She holds a BA from Tufts University in Art History and Comparative Literature and is working toward a PhD in Art History at Stanford University.
