Originally from Pasadena, California, Ashley studied literature at as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago and public policy as graduate student at UCLA.

The film explores the issues of the election's legitimacy, the U.S. government's interest in the creation of the new Iraqi government, the responsibilities of Iraqi expatriates to their native country and the hopes for a harmonious free Iraq through the eyes of two San Jose families -- one that participated in the election and the other that did not.
