Anne Derbes formerly taught at Hood College in Frederick, MD and now divides her time between Maryland and San Francisco. She is the author of Picturing the Passion in Late Medieval Italy: Narrative Painting, Franciscan Ideologies, and the Levant; co-author, with Mark Sandona, of The Usurer’s Heart: Giotto, Enrico Scrovegni, and the Arena Chapel in Padua; and co-editor, with the same collaborator, of The Cambridge Companion to Giotto. She is now completing a book on ritual and gender in the baptistery of Padua. Her articles have appeared in The Art Bulletin, Gesta, Speculum, The Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, and edited volumes. She currently serves on the editorial board of Gesta and on the board of directors of the International Center on Medieval Art.
