Rose Salseda Named 2026–27 Stanford Humanities Center Fellow

Professor Rose Salseda of Stanford’s Department of Art & Art History has been named a 2026–27 Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center (SHC), joining a cohort of scholars whose work advances humanistic inquiry across a wide range of disciplines.

As part of her fellowship, Salseda will pursue her project, Muralism, A Cry for Justice: Chicano Art and the Cultivation of Humanity at Stanford University. Her research examines the role of Chicano muralism in shaping cultural memory, social justice, and community engagement, with particular attention to its significance within the Stanford campus and beyond.

Salseda is one of eight Stanford faculty members selected for the highly competitive fellowship program. Beginning in September 2026, she will join nearly 50 scholars, including faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and visiting researchers, who will spend the academic year pursuing research and participating in the intellectual community fostered by the Stanford Humanities Center.

The Stanford Humanities Center supports advanced research in the humanities and interpretive social sciences through fellowships, workshops, lectures, and public programs that encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and scholarly collaboration.
