The Tournesol Award recognizes one emerging Bay Area painter each year, providing financial support, studio space, and opportunities to connect with Headlands Artists and community.
L. Song is an artist and cultural worker based between California and Italy. Her work is shaped by growing up online and in Floridian suburbia, and by the strange forms of looking, wanting, and performing that came from both. She is drawn to uncomfortable scenes that implore humor and surreality to look at voyeurism, spectatorship, and alienation. Much of her work centers the female figure as she is interested in expanding how femininity, especially Asian and diasporic femininity, is seen and experienced. L. Song’s work has been exhibited across the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York, and Europe.
