Kadri Koop, MFA '16, receives the 2024 Angénieux Special Encouragement Award at the Cannes Film Festival
Angénieux proudly announces the 2024 recipient of its Special Encouragement Award: Kadri Koop, a rising star in the world of cinematography.
Kadri Koop is an Estonian cinematographer and director based in Los Angeles. She has worked on a variety of projects, including documentaries, short films, and feature films. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards.
Koop’s journey began in the vibrant streets of Beijing, where she captured the stories of vendors through poignant documentaries. From there, she embarked on a path of education at Stanford University ('16) and the American Film Institute, honing her skills as a cinematographer and director of photography.
Kadri’s remarkable achievements include nominations from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and the Student Emmy Awards for her graduate film, “SPACESHIP,” which earned critical acclaim and distribution by Focus Features. Her recent feature film, “ON THE LINE: The Richard Williams Story,” exploring the life of the legendary tennis coach, premiered at the prestigious 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. She seamlessly blends documentary and fiction, creating striking visuals that captivate audiences.
As this year’s Special Encouragement recipient, Kadri will have access to Angénieux’s latest technology, empowering her to push creative boundaries in her upcoming project.
