Faculty Book Launch: Shane Denson's "Bride of Frankenstein"

Professor Shane Denson has published a new book, Bride of Frankenstein (Lever Press, 2025), the inaugural volume in the publisher’s film|minutes series. To mark the release, a book launch and film screening will be hosted by Gray Area in San Francisco on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The evening will feature a talk by the author, a screening of James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, followed by a cocktail reception and book signing.

Denson’s monograph presents a minute-by-minute analysis of Whale’s film, employing descriptive, historical, and philosophical approaches to reconsider the work within both its 1930s context and its contemporary relevance. As the first title in the film|minutes series, the book introduces an innovative framework for close analysis, inviting readers to engage with familiar films through the lens of individual minutes.
