Ann Marguerite Tartsinis Named Jack M. and Annette Y. Friedland Curator and Head of Costumes and Textiles at Philadelphia Museum of Art

Ann Marguerite Tartsinis, a PhD candidate in Art History, has been appointed the Jack M. and Annette Y. Friedland Curator and Head of Costume and Textiles at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Beginning September 21, 2026, Tartsinis will lead the museum’s Department of Costume and Textiles, overseeing one of the most significant collections of its kind in the United States and guiding its programs in acquisitions, exhibitions, research, and public engagement.

Tartsinis brings a distinguished curatorial and scholarly practice focused on fashion and textile history, material culture, craft, and modern and contemporary art. She currently serves as Assistant Curator of Architecture & Design at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where she is leading research and curatorial projects including a major exhibition opening in 2027. Previously, she served as Associate Curator at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery.

Her scholarship includes Mondrian’s Dress: Yves Saint Laurent, Piet Mondrian, and Pop Art, co-authored with Professor Emerita Nancy J. Troy, as well as research on subjects ranging from modern craft and Indigenous textiles to fashion photography and bohemian dress. At Stanford, Tartsinis’ research explores the intersections of art, design, and material culture.
