Alpha Kings to premiere at IFF Rotterdam

Still from Alpha Kings (2023)

International Film Festival Rotterdam published its 2023 program, which includes the world premiere of Alpha Kings, a first-year student film by Faye Tsakas and Enrique Pedráza-Botero:

From a rented mansion in suburban Texas, a group of young men sell a hyperbolic, alpha-male version of themselves on the internet.

The program also includes A Field Guide to Coastal Fortifications, a new short film by Tijana Petrovic (MFA '12), alumna and current lecturer in the MFA Documentary Film program:

A Field Guide to Coastal Fortifications is an essay film charting the technological evolution of military bunkers built within the San Francisco Bay’s eroding coast. The film observes a dynamic geological relationship between the literal structures of colonial power, and the land itself. As symbols of might, military bunkers were tasked with protecting the coast from ‘perceived threats.’ Constructed, reconstructed and updated over time, these structures stood and waited for the enemy that never came. Against the backdrop of the changing landscape and its mythology, the film looks at the evolution of military technologies of seeing.

IFFR takes place from January 25 - February 5, 2023.
