Alexandra Brown Chang (BA, Art History, ’22) Debuts Young Adult Novel

Art History alum Alexandra Brown Chang (BA, ’22) recently celebrated the release of her debut young adult novel, By Invitation Only, which she discussed during a special Kepler’s Literary Foundation event on October 4. The conversation featured Brown Chang in dialogue with bestselling author Kyla Zhao (Valley Verified, The Fraud Squad).

Brown Chang’s novel, praised for its wit and insight, follows two young women from opposite worlds—Piper Woo Collins, a hardworking teen striving for a college scholarship, and Chapin Buckingham, a “nepo baby” determined to prove her worth—as they navigate ambition, privilege, and rivalry at the world’s most exclusive debutante ball in Paris.

As a Stanford undergraduate, Brown Chang majored in Art History and took Film & Media Studies courses with Adam Tobin (Senior Lecturer) and Cheo Hodari Coker, Stanford alum and executive producer of Netflix’s Luke Cage.

By Invitation Only has been described as “a dazzling debut” perfect for fans of American Royals and Little White Lies.
