Lecturer Pool

The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for part-time Lecturers who may be appointed to teach visual art courses at the lower and/or upper division level in Sculpture, Installation, Digital Media, New Media, Video, Animation, Performance, Social Practice, and interdisciplinary combinations of these areas.  PLEASE NOTE: Currently, we are not asking for submissions in the areas of Photography, Painting, Drawing, and Print Media. Complete applications received by Oct. 31 each year will be given consideration for all quarters of the following academic year. Each cycle, we will also consider all applications in the pool from the past two years. Lecturer appointments for all quarters are typically made in early spring, though the applicant pool will be referenced throughout the year as the needed.

Candidates should have professional experience as evidenced by an exhibition record indicating engagement in their field, and a portfolio of work that demonstrates a contemporary approach to art practice. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds, a multidisciplinary orientation that bridges areas of art practice, and a broad understanding of the field of contemporary art. The department also seeks to add to its current strength in the creation of socially and environmentally engaged work.

Salary
Commensurate with qualifications and experience and the number of courses the Lecturer is appointed to teach. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Basic Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a relevant field of study at the time of application, or four years equivalent professional experience in artistic and creative work consisting of national and/or international record of performances, exhibitions, or installations in museums, galleries, festivals, or alternative venues engaging the general public.
  • University or college teaching experience.

Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional needs and the availability of funding. Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session. Quarters are typically 10 weeks, and courses are normally scheduled MW or TTh for two hours each day. Lecturers are expected to hold regular weekly office hours.

  • Curriculum vitae (required)
  • Artwork samples. (A minimum of ten sample files are required and a maximum of fifteen will be accepted. The sample files may include clips of audio or video, but the total combined duration of all audio and video submissions may not exceed 5 minutes). Do not submit 2D work as a video slide show.
  • Descriptions of courses or course syllabi that you have taught or would propose to teach (a minimum of one is required and a maximum of three will be accepted)
  • Letters of recommendation (a minimum of 2 are required and a maximum of 3 will be accepted)
