The graduate program in art practice in the Department of Art & Art History is proud to present to the Stanford community an exhibition by our five second-year graduate students: Andrew T. Catanese, Tina Kashiwagi, Liz E. Maelane, Krystal Ramírez, and Oleg Savunov.
Beyond the difficulties and challenges the pandemic has created for all of us, and particularly for our students during the past two years, once again we can see in this exhibition a very robust body of work with a profound conceptual base.
It is very engaging to see the different meanings of the title Mediated Lines for each of the artists in the gallery; it is also inspiring to see how the statements connect as a whole with each other.
As the viewers may be aware already, this is the first time that our program has added an extra year (from two years to three years) to compensate for the missing studio time and limited in-person gatherings that our graduate students experienced since the sheltering in place to the present moment. This context has created unusual camaraderie and bonding among our current cohort. They constantly offer mutual support to each other during critiques and daily interactions, with friendliness and great sense of humor.
I invite you on behalf of the group to enjoy this exhibition and get lost in these flights of imagination and critical thinking. —Enrique Chagoya, Curator
