A gift to the Department of Art & Art History provides a wide range of opportunities for our faculty to engage in intellectually challenging work, and for our students to pursue special projects that enhance their overall curricular experience and development of their artistic, scholarly, and filmmaking excellence.  Your support makes a substantive difference in the life of our department as a national and international leader for arts education. It plays an important role in sustaining our cutting-edge research and programs and is an endorsement of our work.

Giving Opportunities 

Your gift may support our general operations or may be designated to support your choice of specific projects or programs. Currently, we are seeking support for the following projects and programs. If you are interested in making a project or program-specific gift, please add one of the category names listed above to the gift instructions in the webform. 

 

  • General Operations Support sustains our operational excellence while addressing general administrative needs related to teaching and research activities. This support also enhances the learning environment for students through undergraduate peer advising, alumni connection opportunities and collaborative scholarly and educational programming with other departments.
  • Studio Program Support sustains the operational and teaching needs of graduate studio art coursework and undergraduate studio art courses such as painting, drawing, sculpture, print making, experimental media and photography.
  • Art History Gift Fund supports field trips, workshops, reading groups, lectures, and seminars organized by Art History faculty and graduate students. Bringing prominent scholars in conversation with the campus community, these activities fuel impactful, informed conversations across academic years and across Stanford units.
  • Documentary Film Program Gift supports operational needs of the Documentary Film Program including, workshops, special guest speakers, lectures, and seminars organized by Documentary Film faculty and graduate students, as well as maintenance and acquisition of high-end film production equipment for state-of-the-art filmmaking.
  • Film and Media Studies Program Gift supports operational needs of the Film & Media Studies Program including undergraduate film production equipment, workshops, special guest speakers, lectures, and seminars organized by Film & Media Studies faculty and graduate students.
  • Undergraduate Teaching Fund offers innovative courses in order to bolster a burgeoning subfield or to sustain curricular continuity in cases of a faculty member's sabbatical leave in a given academic year.
  • Master of Fine Arts Student Fellowships supports MFA students in Art Practice or Documentary Filmmaking to pursue a world-class training and become the next generation of educators, scholars and practitioners in the field. Current MFA students' profiles are listed here.
