Russian and Soviet Avant-Garde Art and Film, Film Theory, East European Cinema from the 60's to the 80's, Marxism, Psychoanalysis
I graduated with a BA in English and Art History from the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. Since my arrival at Stanford, I have focused on the art and film of the Russian and Soviet avant-gardes as well as the cinema of Eastern Europe. My dissertation explores the long-take aesthetic in the work of Andrei Tarkovsky, Sergei Paradjanov, Aleksandr Sokourov, and Miklós Jancsó (among others). Summer 2009 will find me in Moscow, furthering my studies of the Russian language as a FLAS Fellow. I will complete my dissertation in 2010 with the support of a Stanford Humanities Center Mellon Fellowship (awarded 2009-2010).
