          Jean Ma received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Cinema and Media Studies. Recent publications include Melancholy Drift: Marking Time in Chinese Cinema (University of Hong Kong Press, 2010) and Still Moving: Between Cinema and Photography, coedited with Karen Beckman (Duke University Press, 2008). She is currently working on a book on the songstress in postwar Hong Kong film.
